San Francisco – Presidio Store

Located in the former Presidio Army base commissary, just a stone’s throw from the Golden Gate Bridge, the Presidio store is our largest location. Don’t be surprised if you are directed to the Bakery or Dairy section to find what you’re looking for. Bring your bike or your running shoes with you because we’re surrounded by the trails of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area!

*Presidio Construction Notice*

Our Presidio store will remain open for all your shopping delights during construction, but Halleck Street, a main road to the Basement, is closed, and other roads may be re-routed.

Here are revised directions to the Basement to avoid construction closures:

Coming from the Marina District and points south, follow Marina Boulevard to Old Mason Street. Sports Basement will be about a quarter mile down Old Mason on the left.
From within the Presidio and the west side of San Francisco, follow the detour signs to McDowell Avenue. Follow McDowell to Old Mason. Turn right onto Old Mason. Sports Basement will be about half a mile away on the right.
Coming from Marin, cross the Golden Gate Bridge and take your first right (past the bus stop) onto Merchant Road. Turn left onto Lincoln Boulevard. Follow Lincoln through the Presidio to McDowell Avenue. Take a left onto McDowell and follow it to Old Mason Street. Turn right onto Old Mason. Sports Basement will be about half a mile away on the right.
Pedestrians, cyclists or fans of public transit coming from the 43 and 29 buses should exit the Presidio at the Lombard gate, walk one block down Lombard Street to Baker Street, turn left and follow Baker Street to Richardson Avenue. Cross Richardson and walk past the Palace of Fine Arts (pausing to admire the swans is optional) to the Old Mason Street entrance to the Presidio. Walk down Old Mason – along the bike and pedestrian path – to Sports Basement.

Recycling

We are a drop-off point for organizations that recycle the following: Athletic shoes, batteries, bike tubes, cell phones, corks, energy bar wrappers, paper bags with handles, camping fuel canisters (small, empty ones only please), tennis balls and yoga mats. Meeting Spaces

Our Presidio Store has several spaces in the store that can be used by groups for meetings, events, clinics, parties or anything else that seems fun. Email us to reserve a space.

The Community Area is the large space near the exit, complete with couches, kids’ play area, ping-pong table, and piano. The space can comfortably accommodate more than 120 people for clinics and presentations. This is an open area of the store, close to the registers and shopping action, and it hosts our community bulletin board of events and races.

The Big Room is a private meeting area that can accommodate 50 chairs for meetings, clinics and yoga classes.

We also have access to great outdoor space with fantastic views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco Bay. We’ve hosted charity walks, cycling and running events and e-waste recycling programs.

We also have a great deal of flexibility to accommodate larger groups and events throughout our store. We’ve hosted sit-down dinners for groups as large as 800 and race expos for 5,000 participants. We can provide projection screens, LCD projector, speakers, TV, DVD/VCR and hard-wired internet access. There is never a fee to use our space or equipment, just drop us a line to check availability.
