It’s October, and we all know what that means: summer is making an encore in the Bay Area. It looks like every event planner in the universe is also aware of this fact, which is why every single cool event ever is happening this weekend!
It’s a bit overwhelming to take in all at once, so let us help: we’ve got the events you simply can’t miss, as well as some more relaxing activities to help you beat the crowds this weekend.
America’s Cup: Oct. 2-7
The second part of the AC World Series is happening now down on the Marina Green. It’s not taking up quite so much space as it did back in August, but there’s still plenty of excitement to be had! Here’s a rundown of events.
Fleet Week: Oct. 4-7
Marine and Navy bands, awesome warships sailing around the Bay, and best of all, the Blue Angels themselves are here to make us all proud to be Americans. Almost every event is free to the public, and there’s something to see every day! Here’s the full schedule.
Hardly Strictly Bluegrass: Oct. 5-7
It’s awesome bluegrass, but it’s even more than that! Hardly Strictly Bluegrass is in its 12th year, and it’s better than ever. As always, it’s free to attend, and the lineup this year is everything we’ve ever wanted: we’re most excited for Les Claypool’s Duo De Twang and Elvis Costello, but there’s definitely something for everyone!
Giants Playoff Game vs. the Reds: Oct. 6
The Giants are in the playoffs once again, and so are the A’s! We’re all preparing for a second Battle of the Bay, and that means that things are gonna get wild at the Giant’s first playoff game on Saturday. Time to pick a side! (Don’t worry, we carry team gear for both of them.)
Castro Street Fair: Oct. 7
Live music all over the place, country western dancing, food as far as the eye can see and way too much more to list here; really, the only bad thing about the Castro Street Fair is that it only lasts one day! Don’t miss out on this San Francisco classic. Get all the details here.
Columbus Day Parade: Oct. 7
Celebrate San Francisco’s rich Italian-American history in North Beach! You can always count on the Columbus Day Parade to delight, with beautiful costumes, delicious food and exemplary wine. The parade starts at 12:30 at Jefferson and Stockton, and ends at Washington Square. Find out more here.
49ers vs. Bills: Oct. 7
As soon as the Giants game ends, switch your jersey and go cheer on the Niners!
Burning Man Decompression: Oct. 7
Grab your goggles and pull on those dust-covered boots: it’s time to relive the excitement and community that is Burning Man! The Heat the Street Faire is happening from noon to midnight on Indiana St. in San Francisco. Art cars, fire dancers, and theme camps abound, so get there early and don’t miss a thing. Here’s all the event details.
But if you’ve had your fill of crowds this weekend, come chill out with us. We’ll make sure you get at least one breath of fresh air, no matter what!
Trail Running in the Marin Headlands: Oct. 6
The opposite of the city is the country, and the opposite of a crowd is just you, but we don’t think it sounds to much fun to go get lost in the wilderness by yourself. Find a happy medium with our small trail running group, which meets at our Presidio store at 7:30am. We’ll be hitting the trails in the Marin Headlands. Get more info and register here.
Yoga at the Basement: Oct. 7
Get your OM on every Sunday at our free yoga classes. Presidio and Walnut Creek have a class starting at 11am, Sunnyvale’s starts at 11:30, and Bryant Street’s class starts at 1pm. Breathe deep and center yourself before plunging back into crazy-town. Get more details here.
Group Bike Rides: Oct. 7
Escape the city completely with Walnut Creek’s Mountain Bike Group Ride, starting at 8am, or pedal through the city and people-watch from a safe distance, with Presidio’s Group Ride starting at 8:30am, or Sunnyvale’s Group Ride starting at 9am.
No matter what your plans are, have a great weekend, stay hydrated and wear lots of sunscreen. Okay, we’ll stop channeling our mothers now. But seriously, do it.
