Why we’re crazy about Jamis!

Nothing says dependability like Jamis. They’re our very favorite steel bikes on the market, and for a really good reason: these bumpy, hilly Bay Area streets demand no less! Aluminum frames crack teeth when they hit a pothole, and your average road bike just doesn’t have the gears for a really vertical hill. Jamis bikes don’t have those issues, though: their comfy steel frames can take a pounding and deliver a really smooth ride, while their low, mountain bike style gear ratios let you conquer mountains without losing your cadence.

The Jamis Coda is probably one of our most popular bikes, and definitely tops our recommendations list. They start at around $500, which is an incredible deal considering that you’re getting a high quality steel frame with gears that go low enough to handle any terrain. It’s quite literally one of the best ways to make the transition from a car commuter to a healthier, happier bike commuter – easy on the pocket, built to handle anything, and made to last.

The next step up from there is the Jamis Satellite, which is a fantastic entry level road bike. It’s got mounts for a rack and panniers, so it’s lovely for commuting, and that road geometry and drop bars mean you can take it on a weekend cruise through the wine country without a second thought.

If you can’t get enough of cycling and want a bike that can take a beating every day but still ride like the wind, then the Jamis Quest is for you. It’s got Shimano 105 components and a Ritchey wheel set, so it shifts and rolls like a classic road bike, but it’s beautiful steel frame feels tight and controlled at all times and can take the daily wear that a more delicate carbon or aluminum frame wouldn’t be able to handle.

If you’re a city dweller wanting a no nonsense, low-maintenance bike, look no further than the Jamis Sputnik and Beatnik. The Sputnik comes trimmed with drops, a Selle San Marco saddle and double toe straps, while the Beatnik is a slimmed down version of the same, with flat bars for a more upright riding style. Both bikes come in gorgeous color combos, so you never have to sacrifice your wallet for style points.

Lastly, all our kid’s bikes are by Jamis! We’d never trust our mini-me’s with anything less than the safest, most reliable bikes on the market, and we know you wouldn’t, either. Jamis’ kiddie bikes are built tough, with aluminum that won’t rust if they get left out in the rain, padded seats for comfort, and rugged grips that are easy for little fingers to grab on to.

We love Jamis, and we know you will, too. Come down to any Sports Basement for a test ride to see for yourself!
