Climb, hike or sail, we’ve got you covered for summer

We’re starting a new series of articles to bring you seasonal department highlights straight from our buyers. Enjoy the behind-the-scenes look!

Our Backcountry departments are gearing up for all sorts of summer activities, and we’ve got the gear you need for everything from scaling Half Dome to sailing on San Francisco Bay.

Our two San Francisco stores are well-stocked for climbing enthusiasts. You’ve been able to get climbing shoes, carabineers, harnesses and accessories for years, but now we have some apparel to match. Our prAna order just hit the floor and includes the popular Mojo short for men and Bliss Knickers for women. We’ve just received new gear from The North Face’s climbing line including the Lost World Hoodie and Bishop Knicker for women and the Bishop Pant and Canyonlands Full Zip for men. There are monkey thumbs on the jackets and enough stretch in the bottoms to catapult climbers to the top of any mountain!

It’s tough to look stylish while keeping the bugs at bay during summer vacations, but it’s just gotten a little easier with Columbia’s Insect Blocker Mesh Jacket. The jacket is made from 100% Bug Shield Mesh and is ultra-lightweight and breathable;  it will keep you cool and protected. The insect repellent lasts for 70 washes and is EPA registered, so it’s safe for anyone to use. The jacket looks as great as it feels with pop zippers and trims guaranteed to make you stand out from the rest of your tour group. All stores will be selling  this jacket as well as Columbia’s  Insect Shield Top and Bottom.

Sports Basement is ready for the America’s Cup even if San Francisco isn’t. Our Presidio store just received new Helly Hansen sailing apparel, shoes and accessories. We have everything to keep sailors dry and visible out on the Bay or around town. My personal favorite is the Salt Jacket for men and women. It’s a waterproof jacket with a removable hood, reflective details and a water resistant zipper for only $160!

It’s exciting to prepare for spring camping trips and summer vacations, but since the weather can’t decide which season we’re in, all our stores still have the snow gear necessary to make one last trip up to Tahoe. Or maybe to stock up for next year.
