Sports Basement is popping up downtown!

Have you dreamed of having your favorite sporting goods store within steps of the Westfield shopping center, the Powell Street transit stop, and that guy who makes jewelry out of spoons?

Your fantasy is about to come true, at least for the next few months. We’re thrilled to announce the newest member of the Sports Basement family: Sports Basement Union Square. This pop-up store will offer downtown San Francisco shoppers excellent deals on the best outdoor gear through the 2012 holiday season.

Here’s what you can expect from the Union Square store:

Our usual great prices on gear and apparel for adults and kids
The same top brands we carry at our other four stores
A Travel Cafe with free Wi-Fi and info for out-of-town visitors
Free yoga classes Wednesdays at 6pm
Fun Run with Ian Mondays at 6pm
The awesome customer service and assortment of couches you’ve come to expect from the Basement

Due to its adorably cozy footprint (about a third of the square footage of our Presidio store), Union Square does not offer large items like bikes and bike racks, nor does it have rentals or snow service (limited bike service is available). Swing by any one of our other four stores for a snowboard tune or to rent skis or a tent.

The Union Square store, which is located at the corner of Fifth and Market streets, will be open by mid-September is now open! Store hours are 10am-9pm M-F, 10am-8pm on weekends.

I tried visiting your store twice and was told I had to check my messenger bag at the counter as several women walked right on in with larger hand bags than my messenger bag.

I carry a laptop and ipad at all times in my bag and would never check my bag at the counter. Hence you will NEVER get my business.

MR.RUMBERG, CONGRADULATIONS ON GETTING THE APPROVAL FOR YOUR STORE AT BERKELEY ICELAND. I PLAYED RECREATIONAL HOCKEY AT ICELAND FROM 1968 TO 2007. I HAVE A LOT OF MEMORIES IN THAT BUILDING.I UNDER STAND THAT THE BLEACHERS WILL BE REMOVED,IF POSSIBLE I WOULD LIKE TO GET ONE SLAT BOARD FROM THE PLAYERS BENCH,OR CLOSE TO IT I WILL CALL IT MY MEMORY BOARD. IT WILL HANG IN MY BARN/MAN CAVE WITH ALL MY OTHER HOCKEY STUFF WITH GREAT PRIDE. IF YOU CAN GET ME ONE SLAT I WOULD BE HAPPY TO DRIVE TO BERKELEY AND REMOVE IT MYSELF, I NOW LIVE IN JACKSON.THANKS,GEORGE

EXCELLENT customer service from Shelby and two others in the footwear department today. Haven’t seen that level of service in a retail establishment in a very long time. So glad to have SB in a convenient, mass-transit accessible location!
