The Golden Gate Bridge is celebrating its 75th anniversary! Join Sports Basement Presidio for a weekend of festivities to celebrate the Bridge’s birthday. We’ve got something for the every member of the family.
Come with us on a guided run through the Presidio and across our iconic landmark to kick off its 75th anniversary weekend. The run leaves from the Basement promptly at 9:30am on Saturday, May 26. Runners are asked to arrive by 9:15am to sign in and collect their free commemorative running shirt. Dress in layers (the bridge can be windy) and come prepared to have a great time. We’ll have a special breakfast at the store following the run. All levels are welcome. RSVP here so we know to save you a shirt and some food.
Sunday, May 27 is the big day. Many roads between Fort Point and Fort Mason will be closed or severely congested. We’ll have bike parking in our parking lot. Click here for festival transportation information.
Start the festivities with a Golden Gate bike ride. Meet at Sports Basement to check in at 9am, and we’ll head out from the store over the bridge, up Conzelman Road to the top of Hawk Hill. The view of the Golden Gate is incredible from there! When we’re finished soaking up the scenery, we’ll head back to Sports Basement to complete the 10-mile ride. RSVP here so we know to wait for you. All levels are welcome. Sports Basement has a limited number of road bikes for rent. Call ahead for availability.
Also on Sunday, we’ll have a full day of family-friendly events, with food, games, a place to make t-shirts, and movies – including Up and Finding Nemo – playing throughout the day. Our parking lot will have food trucks and food tents and will offer a spectacular view of the fireworks, which start at 9:30pm. For those who want to shop but not carry stuff around we will have a UPS pop-up store for domestic and international shipping, or we’ll hold your purchases at the store for one week.
