Charity Madness – South Bay Division

How are your brackets coming? You’ve chosen your SF East and SF West division teams already, right? Now here are the contenders in the South Bay Division.

Team In Training has trained over a half a million runners, walkers, triathletes, cyclists and hikers since 1988 and has raised over $1.2 billion to fund Leukemia and Lymphoma research.  Participants bleed PURPLE and the GO TEAM chant follows them wherever they go. Team In Training is a fundraising monster with the ability to run the table!

Alzheimer’s Association: This organization has been named #5 in the Top 50 non-profits in the nation. They put on awesome charity walks that Sports Basement has always attended to give the walkers that extra SB Boost! They work on a global, national and local level to better the care and support for those affected by Alzheimer’s and related dementias. They will use these much needed funds to increase their research and attain their goal of a “world without Alzheimer’s.”

Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee:  This Olympic-minded organization is in it for the big win!  Their ultimate goal is to bring the Summer Olympic Games to the San Francisco Bay Area and to create a meaningful Olympic legacy that benefits diverse segments of the population for generations to come.

American Heart Association: This well-known organization works tirelessly to build healthier lives and a world without heart disease and stroke. The AHA Start! Training Program, which works closely with Sports Basement, encourages people to get healthy by walking and running and educates members about heart-healthy living. This group is in a good position to tear through the brackets in this heart-pounding competition.

Team Asha: This non-profit, 100% volunteer-run organization’s mission is to catalyze socio-economic change in India through education of under-privileged children. While helping children halfway around the world, Team Asha is simultaneously a premier endurance sports program that trains people for half and full marathons. Team Asha is in good position to go the distance in this competition, let’s see if they can rally to the finish line!

The American Diabetes Association mission is to prevent, cure, and improve the lives of those affected by diabetes.  Team Diabetes comes into this tournament as a sixth seed, but juggernauts beware as this group of fundraisers pack a powerful punch and are determined to find a cure for diabetes!  We are looking forward to watching ADA try and leave a lasting mark on this tournament!

Silicon Valley Triathlon Club: The Silicon Valley Triathlon Club host a yearly kids triathlon supporting the Silicon Valley Children’s Fund, which supports foster children in the Silicon Valley and beyond.  SVTC goes into this tournament with momentum as the triathlon season is quickly approaching.  Only time will tell if SVTC is able to swim, bike and run their way into the top spot.

Bay Area Women’s Sports Initiative: Kickin’ butt and taking names is what BAWSI woman do! The Bay Area Women’s Sports Initiative is a non-profit with a mission to create programs and partnerships through which women athletes bring health, hope and wholeness to the community. With exceptional athletes like Brandi Chastain and Julie Foudy leading the way, woman in sports have become a more visible and valued part of the Bay Area sports culture. This group will put any opponent to shame and will get all their BAWSI ladies to take the cake.
